Psychology Behind Fashion: 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2019
3.1 Phillip Lim is known for its cool aesthetic and easy-to-wear, effortless pieces. The designer stated that he had no particular theme for the fall winter collection, but instead wanted to create something for the modern woman of 2019. The result is a functional, yet city-cool collection that works.
The color story of the 2019 collection consisted of neutrals, like gray, white, beige, and black. We’ve spoken before about how neutrals are reliable and calming and this was no accident. Philip Lim himself stated that the world is a chaotic place. Could we then derive that the color choices are his answers to the chaos and uncertainty?
One of the biggest trends for Fall 2018, which continues through the entire 2019 calendar year has been animal prints. And we’ve spoken in the past on the effects the prints have on the wearer – namely making him or her look more attractive. However, while most designers focused on snakeskin and leopard, for this 2019 Fall/Winter collection, Philip Lim chose Zebra, a seldom-seen, but on-trend print.
In 2019, many designers are driving change by not only paying homage to the environment, but also incorporating cruelty-free materials and 3.1 Phillip Lim continued the trend as he went fur-free this season and will be moving away from other exotic skins.
