Hi all,
Today's post is all about Ibiza & Formentera, two Balearic islands off of Spain. Ibiza is known as the party capital of the world and each summer, the white isle welcomes the biggest DJs and celebrities for some of the best parties you'll ever attend. Let's take a look below at some recommendations as to where to eat, sleep and play in the white isle.
Where to stay in Ibiza?
Ushuaia Beach Hotel.
The Ushuaia Beach Hotel is located in Playa D'en Bossa, a section of the island near the airport, with some beautiful beaches, great restaurants and even better clubs. Do note that Playa D'en Bossa is not in downtown Ibiza, so you'd need to take a cab or rent a scooter to make it there.
The main reason to stay at Ushuaia? The parties! The hotel plays hosts to daily parties in a custom-built stage behind the main "Club" building. Among the invitees each week to spin, we find Avicii, David Guetta, Hardwell, Armin Van Buuren, Axwell Ingrosso and Martin Garrix. The hotel also hosts a special Saturday party called "Ants" for locals. The beauty of it all is that as a guest of the hotel, you get free entrance and are free to move back and forth from the hotel to the party at your leisure. The parties run from roughly 5pm to midnight, giving you the opportunity to choose to go to sleep and relax for the next day or get a late dinner and continue the party at one of the many clubs on the island. The hotel contains two main buildings: The "Club" and the "Tower". The "Club" sort of surrounds the main stage and if you get a room with a balcony, you get to see the party from your own personal VIP balcony but get to join the crowd when you are ready. The "Tower" section is a bit quieter, but has some great rooms with Jacuzzis outside and is newer, as it was built just 2 years ago. The hotel has 2 main restaurants: Montauk Steakhouse and Minami, a sushi restaurant. While I didn't go to Montauk, I can certify that Minami is great!
But it's not all about parties right? ... Right?
Ushuaia has a great beach behind it and you can get chairs and enjoy your afternoon with some music, the breeze and a champagne. In case the beach is not your thing, the pools are great too and feature a live DJ most days as well.
Where to play in Ibiza?
I'm going to separate this section into two: Ibiza & Formentera.
Formentera: I strongly recommend you take a day away from partying and take the ferry to the nearby island of Formentera. The ferry takes 20-30 minutes and costs, I think around $30-$40. Formentera is much more of a relaxed island, and is home to some of the most incredible beaches. What's fun is you can rent a car, scooter or bicycle to scout the island. Here, we went to a restaurant and the beach. More on the restaurant on the next section. The beach we went to is semi secluded and remember that as is normal in Europe, clothing is optional in nature.
In Ibiza, there are several beach clubs and night clubs. Ushuaia as described above is an example of a beach club of sorts - You party during the day. For beach clubs and day partying, I recommend Ushuaia of course, plus BeachHouse and Blue Marlin. For night clubs, while the island is known to host the rich and famous, the clubbing experience is much more up-close and personal than VIP from a distance. Everyone is friends with everyone and you're going to have a great time. I've personally been to Space Ibiza and Amnesia and had a great time at both. Each year, I've missed the world famous Pacha, so I'm hoping I get to go some time next year.
Where to eat in Ibiza?
There are so many places on the islands to eat at and great ones at that. When in Formentera, be sure to check out Es Moli de Sal, a great seafood restaurant that as the name in Catalan implies, a lot of the dishes are made with local salt as an ingredient.
In Ibiza, I went to several places near Ushuaia, located within walking distance that served great pizza and quick-to-eat meals. For more impressive dishes, I recommend El Chiringuito, located in Las Salinas and with a beautiful beach behind (warning: Full nude beach!). Nearby in Las Salinas, you will find La Escollera, a great paella restaurant. At Blue Marlin, aside from tanning and partying, you can also have lunch and dinner and the food is spectacular. Prior to a night out, we also went to KM5. This restaurant also has a DJ in the outer section but allows for a quieter dinner indoors.
