Trip in Review: Fairmont Mayakoba in Riviera Maya

Hi all,

My time in Playa del Carmen/ Riviera Maya has come to an end and I wanted to thank you for following along here and on Instagram! I had a fantastic time, and I wanted to share some images and insight on the hotel I stayed at: the Fairmont Mayakoba.

Fairmont Mayakoba

The AAA-5 Diamond resort is situated in the Riviera Maya roughly 35 minutes (40 miles) from the Cancun airport and near Playa del Carmen (about 15 minutes) and 1 hour from Tulum. The hotel is comprised of approximately 401 rooms and suites across 240 acres of luscious tropical land – although a rather large property – the incredible service will leave you thinking you’re staying at a boutique hotel.

The hotel is near the beach, as mangroves and canals exist between the rooms and the beach to serve as a barrier to the hotel during hurricanes and to preserve the tropical landscape. However, beachfront suites are available. To get around the large property, golf carts conveniently pick up guests every few minutes at pick up spots or along any road to get to your desired location.

The Rooms at Fairmont Mayakoba

I had the opportunity to stay in the signature casita room. These rooms are situated on the stunning water canal. These are large rooms that have a private terrace or balcony and possess stunning marble bathrooms and large bathtubs. Romantic, yet spacious!

The Service at Fairmont Mayakoba

Truly one word speaks to the service of the hotel and that is remarkable. I never had to ask for a drink or how to get to a location because the staff throughout the hotel paid close attention to detail to meet every guest's need. From the Wifi to the fresh, cold towels, and water bottles in the shuttle from the airport to the hotel, to welcome cocktails at check-in, to a special delivery of fresh guacamole to the room after just arriving, the experience was incredible.

Amenities at Fairmont Mayakoba

You name it, the hotel had it. Below, I'll list a few of my favorites:

Nature tour:  Whether on bike or on foot, this is a great opportunity to learn about the wildlife around the property and even explore a cave!

The Willow Stream Spa: gorgeous two-story building, comprised of two mineral pools, and steam and treatment rooms. I was able to indulge in a massage during my stay and I must say it was amazing.

Boat Tour: One of my favorites parts of the trip was the boat tour on the the canal. Guests enjoyed fresh coconuts while catching in the wildlife and property.

Pools: Not one or two, but FIVE swimming pools, one with a swim up bar, another with a kid friendly waterslide, and a stunning adult’s only infinity pool overlooking the canal (personally spent most of my time at this one).

Watersports: Easily rent kayaks, paddle boards and boogie boards

Golf: PGA golf course and the Jim McLean Golf School for those golf lovers.

Food at Fairmont Mayakoba

During my stay, I had the opportunity to indulge in a dining package that provided me access to eat at a variety of the restaurants on the property. Everything was incredible. Below you will find the spots I ate at:

La Laguna: Perfect for breakfast. You can participate in the buffet or order a la carte. Everything was made fresh though my personal favorites were the yogurt and granola parfait and the scrambled eggs.

Brisas Restaurant: Great lunch spot. Recommend the yummy tuna tartare and the guacamole had me screaming to my heart’s content.

This restaurant also offers an intimate mezcal/ beer tasting at an additional charge. And for those with partners that love beer/mezcal you can still support them while indulging in another cocktail of choice. Each drink is paired with a tapa and all were incredibly delicious.

El Lobby Lounge: The spot to indulge in a cocktail and order an appetizer while looking over the scenic property at sunset.

El Puerto Restaurant:  Latin-Asian fusion menu and if you know anything about me you know I love sushi. this was my absolute favorite from the trip.

And if that wasn’t enough, in-room dining is also available as an option.

I hope this article provides you with some information about the hotel in case you're thinking of visiting. I honestly loved it and will definitely go back. Plus, I heard from many people - bloggers and friends alike - about how they had visited the hotel as well and every single one had only great things to say about it. So, if you're looking for a relaxing, perhaps romantic Mexico trip, this one should be at the very top of your list!

As always thank you for reading and hope you enjoyed the review!

Xo,

Christie
