How To Wear White After Labor Day
Hi all!
As I write this, we're approaching Labor Day Weekend - the last long weekend before school starts for some, and summer hours end for others. So be sure to enjoy it!
Who Said You Can't Wear White After Labor Day?
There's always been a legend that you can't wear white after labor day. Why? Well some say it was because white is a summer color, meant to keep you cool. Other say that in the 1920s and 1930s, city-living meant dark-colored clothes, and white was reserved for the summer vacations only. Others still believe and hold on to the idea, at least when it comes to shoes and boots. Well, I've always loved all white look - something about it screams CHIC! And a calendar day is not going to dictate my fashion choices! I find it an outdated rule and today we'll discuss some tips with the help of this beautiful outfit from Lafayette 148 NY.
An All-White Look from Lafayette 148 NY
When I saw this Lafayette 148 NY look- I was obsessed! Take a look at the individual pieces here. I'm in love with this coat in particular - a great investment piece thanks to its classy nature and perfect as Fall starts soon. To finish off the outfit, I grabbed this Henri Bendel that was perfect to go with the all-white looks with its brown and white stripes.
How To Wear All-White After Labor Day
Let's talk about some general tips for wearing an all-white outfit after Labor Day:
Steer clear of eyelets and crochet fabrics which are more appropriate for the summer. Instead, stick to thicker fabrics, such as wool and cashmere when wearing white.
However, you can transition a great cotton pant or silk blouse from summer to the colder months!
Is wearing an all-white look too risque for you (scared of stains/not ready to try)? Fear not: Pair whites with more common Fall hues such as rich reds, yellows, pumpkin/burnt oranges, dark browns or neutrals, plums, and military greens.
For accessories, try adding statement pieces- think a great bag and pumps. The all-white outfit will make your accessories really pop. If you wanted to switch out my brown pumps, you could add a great pair of nude pumps (carousel above) to add more height.
While usually wearing an all-white look will make you look slimmer and taller, wearing a darker color creates a color break and doesn't let you look as tall.
