Hot Trend Alert: Belt Bags, Waist Bags and Fanny Packs 2018
Hi all,
We're here to talk about one of the biggest trends of the moment, that is the belt bag, also known as the waist bag, wait, it's also known as the fanny pack and who knows what other name we can encounter. Whatever you want to call, what was once considered a HUGE fashion faux pas is now being regarded as the "IT" bag of the Fall/Winter season. Plus, based on what I saw on the runways in NY and Milan, they're not going anywhere anytime soon. So if you're not sure about whether or not to buy into the trend, consider this to be the time and below, I'll provide you with some general information about these bags, and then we go shopping together for a new waist/belt bag (aka: fanny pack).
The Belt Bag Trend (or Waist or Fanny)
It's one of the hottest trends right now, right up there with slouchy boots, the power suit trend and others. And while I predict this to likely be just that, a trend for the year, there's no reason why we can't invest in it a bit. I know what you're thinking "But Christie, you recently invested in a Prada bag. That's no small investment". You'd be right, actually. The only reason I did is that it is a convertible bag, meaning it can be a belt bag, but doubles as a clutch if you need it, and it also comes with a chain so it can also be a shoulder or crossbody bag. Any Prada bag is an investment, and this one that has so many uses, including a trendy one, was the perfect investment.
How to Style a Belt Bag
One of the beauties of these bags is that they are so easy to style. You can have them complement an outfit, or have them be the focal point of the outfit. The decision is up to you. They can be worn over anything. The biggest reason why I love them is that you're able to go hands free as you walk so it becomes a convenience factor as well. So whether you opt for a solid color or print, here are some easy Fall combos to get your mind going:
Running Errands: Wear the belt bag over jeans. You can loop it in the belt holes or just have it hanging out. Finish the look with a basic T and a blazer. Talk about sophisticated chic!
Date night: These belt bags go over ANY dress, which is amazing. Plus, again, hands-free so can it be any better? Finish the look with thigh high boots or ankle booties.
Sunday Brunch: Try a leather skirt, neutral basic tee and denim jacket. Finish with boots (combat, thigh high, slouchy, ankle).
Warm Weather: If it stays and it doesn't get cold yet, or if you live in the South, you can try wearing it over denim shorts, tee and a thin blazer. Finish off with slouchy boots.
