1 Piece 3 Ways - Ep. 7: How to Style a Trench Coat

In today's episode of 1 Piece 3 Ways, we're talking Trench Coats - the perfect coat for Spring & Fall. Trench coats are the one coat (along with denim jackets maybe?) that is perfect for the 50s and 60s and works day and night so it makes sense to invest in something we love. So let's dive in and look at three ways to style a trench coat!
Scarf as a Trench Coat Belt?
The first style that we're going to at is using a silk scarf and swapping it in for the regular belt that usually comes with the coat. Here, you might want to look for a fun color pop to contrast against the usual beige from the coat. Or even add an accent to an already existing color in your outfit.
Since I was letting the scarf and its color do the pop, I opted for a white button down shirt (buttoned all the way up) as the top. I paired that with a my go-to denim, white booties and my new favorite bag and off I went!
Adding Prints to Your Trench Coat Look
Another way of sprucing up your regular ol' beige trench coat is by adding fun, colorful prints to it. For example, for the 2nd look, I opted for gingham as the print and paired it with a red gingham skirt, and a pair of black & white gingham sandals. Then for the top, I went simple: a black t-shirt. You can opt to tie a little knot with the t-shirt for a more weekend-fun look.
Date Night Trench Coat
While the trench coat might not be appropriate for black tie event, you can absolutely wear it out for date night. What I like to do is add a silk dress, or a silk top and skirt. the silk elevates the look nicely for night time, and but is effortless as well, because all you need to do to finish the look is add some sandals and you're set!
