Hi all!
Today's post is all about how to style shorts! Shorts don't only have to be for casual day occasions, after all, aren't they pants just with a shorter hem?
All shorts have versatility, whether they are denim, linen, or silk. However, paying attention to the fabric will help you decide what the shorts are appropriate for.
Denim shorts are perfect for most occasions, think a day of running errands, brunch with your friends, chic pool party, or a night out at a hip restaurant. However, steer clear if you have a more formal occasion to attend.
-For a more casual day look: pair the shorts with flat sandals or menswear inspired brogues. For the top, you have the most flexibility and it mostly depends on where your destination is. Try a basic tee in black, white, or grey for errands and a crop top or bikini top if heading to a pool party. For brunch with the girls, pair the shorts with a gorgeous blouse or a basic tank with a classic blazer, as I do in my latest OOTD above. I added a scarf for some added fun! In terms of what bag to wear, try a large shopping bag tote when pairing with this look.
-For an evening look, make sure to pair with high heeled sandals or high heeled mules. For the top, pair with a blouse to help dress up the look! Remember to save the crop tops for the music festival or day pool/beach party. Think a small clutch or small shoulder bag when pairing with this look.
-For work or more formal occasions: Stick to culottes and longer hem line or flared shorts. Also pay attention to the fabric, stick to silk fabrics and fancier prints if wearing cotton shorts. For the top, try a classic button down top or camisole with cardigan since you are exposing your legs and you will want to stay more conservative up on the top. Pair with an elegant bag for a more formal occasion or your go to work bag.
On a side note, when wearing flared shorts, it may help you style these if you pretend you are wearing a skirt. So if the length is short if it was a skirt, then make sure to avoid these for work. Flared shorts also look best with a shirt tucked in to help accentuate your torso and lengthen it (especially if you're short like me).
I hope this post helps you think differently about shorts and feel more confident to wear them for various occasions. Remember to pay attention to length and fabric as the most important keys when styling your next OOTD!
As always, thanks for reading!
XOXO,
Christie
