3 phrases to use when they keep interrupting you.
-Wait, my turn or yours?
This is a good one to use with a friend. You’re calling them out without being rude. If this were to become a pattern with the same person then try the next approach or have a conversation with them about it.
-Calmly & softly say their name. Such a great point, let’s get back to it in a second then continue what you were saying…
It’s polite and assertive & great to use in a professional setting, especially your boss or someone who habitually interrupts you. Saying their name & acknowledging their point keeps the tone positive. It avoids confrontation & shows you value their input. And it allows you to gently redirect the conversation to take back control.
-Raise your hand & then continue speaking.
The non-verbal cue of holding up your handle allows you to take back control of the conversation subtly without causing offense. This is great to use as a teacher with students.
